The benefit for both you and myself are that each issue is tracked in detail, it is notated on each invoice, each issue is closed after it is resolved and it is available in an archive at any time in the future.

We use a helpdesk ticketing system called Zendesk for the tasks and questions that come into our office. This allows us to easily let the customer know what is happening with their issue and also gives our customers an easy way to ask more questions or give us more information. Zendesk is used by 20th Century Fox, Sony Music, Sears Canada, the Denver Broncos and many other companies. We have been using Zendesk for a year now and feel that it is an integral part of our day to day business activities.

- Either create a new Zendesk ticket by sending email to firstname.lastname@example.org and briefly describe your problem or question in the subject line. You can enter additional details in the body of the message and send your message.
- Visit our website at www.pinnacletechs.com and click on the support tab on the left. After the menu flies out, enter your description, details, name, and email address. When you are finished, click on the submit button.
- Call us at 706.529.5751 and we can create a helpdesk ticket for you.
Interacting with a Zendesk ticket
After a ticket has been created for your issue, you will receive an email update about the ticket. You can reply to this email and the ticket will be automatically updated with the information in the email reply. It really is that easy to give us more information or ask more questions.
As we work on you issue or question, you will receive periodic updates as they become available. If you call our office at 706.529.5751 you can refer to your ticket number and anyone in the office will always be able to give you the most updated information on your ticket.
Many people use the same password for every website that requires a password. I can’t blame them because it does seem difficult to remember 50 different sets of credentials for all of your online accounts. There is a huge risk by using one set of credentials though.
Imagine if you will that you trust me to take care of your pets while you are out of town for the week. You have to give me the key to your house so that I can come and go in order to feed and water your pets. You don’t have a problem with this because you trust me enough to take care of your beloved animals. However, do you trust me enough to give me the keys to your safety deposit box, your Swiss bank account, and your Ferrari? Probably not.
This is what you are doing by using the same username and passwords for every account. If you are unfortunate enough to have one password stolen, and if you have been using the same password for everything, then the person who stole your password now has access to everything. Your email account, your banking account, your retirement account, your Facebook account, your LinkedIn account, etc.
You get the picture. There are manageable ways to come up with a method to create good passwords and to manage those passwords so that you don’t have to remember them. Even with the massive amounts of critical data that businesses are storing today, some of them aren’t backing up this data. The best blend of backups include a local backup and a backup stored offsite or in the cloud. In my experience, companies have to lose their data once before they spend the money on a backup technology. Backup technologies are relatively inexpensive today compared to what they used to be.
Three questions that you should ask yourself are “What data are we backing up?,” “How often are we backing up?,” and “When was the last time that we tested our backups?”
The last item is as critical as the first two. Many organizations have configured their backups and forget to check the backup technology. It’s all great that you are backing up the technology if you also have the ability to restore that data if the need arises.
Reasons for backup failures can include old backup tapes that are beyond their usable life, failure of the backup technology, or user error.
Examples of user error are employees not being trained properly on how to perform the backup, sick employees not changing the tape regularly, or management forgetting that the person that changed the backup tapes no longer works there.
Backup solutions are only as good as their weakest link. If you haven’t tested your backups in a while by doing a test restore then you might want to schedule that very soon.
One of the great advantages of having a Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS) is that the Microsoft Exchange Email system is included with the operating system. What this means to you as a business is that you can have your own Email system running on your own domain name with your own calendars and tasks which can be shared with other users in your organization.
What many people do not realize is that with Microsoft SBS you can also configure your server so that you can use Microsoft Outlook on a laptop or desktop away from the office with the same user experience that you have in the office. We call this Outlook Anywhere. In short, this means that you don’t have to settle for working a different way while you are at home as opposed to when you are at the office. All of the Email is there, all of the calendar items are there, and all of your tasks are there. If you update anything at home it is automatically updated at the office. Everything ties in with the Exchange server.
If you happen to be travelling and you don’t have access to a computer with Microsoft Outlook you can use Outlook Web App (formerly known as Outlook Web Access – OWA) to access the same information. Let’s say you are on vacation at your beach house and you don’t have Microsoft Office (with Outlook) installed on your computer. No problem! Just access your OWA website and you will find all of your Email, calendars, and tasks.
